WORSHIP:
Worship in the Lutheran church is "liturgical." That is, it
involves people actively in the singing, praying, and worship
leadership. Worship is not simply a concert and sermon, but has a
distinct flow resembling the story of Christ's life itself:
We
enter to acknowledge the world's hurts and needs,
we experience God's forgiveness and praise Him with song and prayer,
we hear of the ministry of Christ and His help for our real needs,
we celebrate His sacraments, and
we leave to serve.
We offer
3 services weekly, with communion at each.
Adult
choir practices on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.
Children's choir practices during Sunday School.
"Wing and a Prayer" contemporary group practices on Saturday
afternoons.
At
Ascension, we promise you can:
-
hear
positive, practical, stimulating messages of encouragement
-
offer
God upbeat music with a contemporary flavor,
-
meet
new friends and get to know your neighbors,
-
entrust your children to a caring nursery staff and Sunday School
teachers.
A Theology of Joy,
An Experience of Enjoyment!

FELLOWSHIP:
Various groups meet monthly (or more often) to enjoy friendship and
support. Gatherings often include meals and trips.
Prime
Timers--those of retirement age
Boomers--those not retired, but old enough that their children
don't need child care.
Young Marrieds--plenty of childcare is available for these adults
Young Adults--twenty-somethings, usually without children
High Schoolers--many trips for service projects and inspirational
gatherings
Supper Club--adults in rotating groups of 12-16, who enjoy dinner
and conversation together in homes or in a restaurant
Bridge Clubs--both a Thursday morning and a Saturday evening group
is available
Girl Scouts--our troop meets weekly on Tuesday evenings

EVANGELISM / OUTREACH:
At Ascension, most members were non-Lutheran originally and most
members of this new congregation have belonged for fewer than 5 years.
Therefore, we are very sensitive to serving the needs of nonmembers,
especially new residents of Louisville's East Side. Worship is
increasingly "user friendly" to those not used to a liturgical
tradition, and most music is contemporary. Visitors are encouraged
to participate in the church's life and new small groups ministries are
often begun to meet their needs.
